Polaris Needs You

One of the reasons families are drawn to Polaris is the strong community spirit and support.  1/10th of Polaris families hold active board member positions. There are many, many ways you can give the 10 service hours you commit to per year as a Polaris family from stuffing envelopes at home to running a club that interests you. We are only as strong as the support we receive.

You can volunteer in classrooms, enrichment programs, school events,  and/or join a committee (Events, Enrichment, and Fundraising). Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet other families, as well as doing your part in helping our school and our children thrive.

We realize that many of our community members work and are not available during the school day, however there are many opportunities to help on an evening or weekend or from home. The two Presidents of the PEF both work full time, have children and are on the board of at least one other non-profit organization and truly understand that life can be completely overwhelming sometimes and we are here to support you.   In addition to helping our school function at its best, every hour volunteered and documented can be used to show community support when we apply for grants.  This can make a big difference in award decisions.

Volunteer Opportunities

When we have specific needs for events and school projects we post volunteer sign ups on our Facebook group page as well as sending out e-mails. Parent Liasons in the classroom help communicate messages on behalf of the teachers. Our board does many things but usually they are not sitting still and sometimes there are things we missed.  If you see an opportunity, jump on in! We believe in teamwork and collaboration.

Volunteering should be fulfilling and fun!

We are not just a bunch of volunteers. We are an organization full of parents with similar interests and worries. We share ideas. We solve problems. We challenge ourselves and we try to show that giving back to the Polaris Community is both rewarding and fulfilling to our children.

What is your passion? e-mail us at pef@polarischarterschool.org about what volunteer work interests you most and what your skills and talents are. In the course of the year we need help with everything from art projects and cooking to light construction and home office projects.

Volunteers and Safety

Before You Volunteer…

Everyone who wants to volunteer in the school during school hours or work with the children at any school or PEF events must complete the following:

1.  Have a background check done.

• Call the State Police Criminal Records Unit to schedule an appointment.   (603) 223-3867
• Have the  School Employee Criminal Records Check -Volunteers form notarized and bring it to your appointment.
  • Free notary services are available at most public libraries and banks.
• The background check costs $35, payable at the appointment.  They do not accept credit cards, so please make sure you have cash or a check.

2.  Sign the Polaris Code of Conduct form and return to the school office.

3.  Sign the Confidentiality Agreement and return to the school office.

You must complete all of these steps for Polaris, even if you have had a background check done for a previous job or volunteer position.  However, you only need to undergo the process once.  If you have completed it in a previous year, you are all set.  We look forward to working with you!
